How to Care for Your New Tattoo: A Step-by-Step Guide

Before getting a tattoo, we think about the subject of the tattoo for a long time. And when we already know exactly what image we want to wear on our skin, the second question arises. Who to contact? Well, of course, a highly qualified, reputable and experienced specialist. Do you think that only the right choice of specialist is enough to prevent complications after getting a tattoo? Of course not. It is important to properly care for a tattoo so that you can enjoy all the pleasure of wearing the tattoo of your dreams․

Keeping the skin clean, avoiding sunlight, and moisturising the area of the skin as necessary help to prevent scars or infections from forming in the future. If you want to know more, keep reading.

The First 30 Days of Tattoo Care

Day 1

After the tattoo is done, the specialist will cover it with a gauze or medical-grade adhesive. After this is removed, your skin may be red or sore, and there may even be fluid leaking from the tattoo. You will also feel that the ink area is warmer and more painful. Wash your hands thoroughly before removing the gauze, and then wash the tattoo.

Day 2

When washing the tattoo area, you will see a oozing discharge, which is excess ink. Then, your skin may peel.

Days 4-6

Try not to touch the peels with your hands. Continue washing your ink twice a day.

Day 6-14

You will start to notice flaky areas. Do not rush to tear them off. These areas should come off on their own so as not to cause scarring. During these days, you will be tormented by the feeling of itching. You can relieve it with moisturizing creams, which should not contain alcohol.

Note that if your tattoo area is still red and swollen during these days, this is already a cause for concern. Be sure to consult your tattoo artist or contact a healthcare professional.

Day 15-30

At this stage, the dry patches and flakes of skin are mostly gone. However, you should continue to use moisturizers. Full healing of the lower layer of the skin usually takes 3-4 months. And at the end of this period, you can fully enjoy the image that you and your tattoo artist originally planned to get.
